Grilling Fresh Fish

A lot of people are going to be having barbecues this summer- burgers and dogs will be thrown over hot coals, as will fresh fish, different cuts of meats, and there’s nothing like fresh grilled vegetables. It’s easy to get into a rut when cooking on the grill- the same old chicken and steaks can become boring, and if you have guests, you may want to spice things up a bit.

Summer Salads

I love salads, especially during the summer. They’re easy to prepare, and you can mix and match different type of greens with veggies, proteins, nuts and fruits. There really aren’t any combinations that won’t work; just pick a few of your favorite flavor combinations, and get mixing.

Understanding Metabolism

All food is converted to sugar when it is consumed. This sugar, or glucose, is fuel for our bodies, and helps our muscles and brain work. Some foods turn to sugar faster than others after they are eaten- these are the foods that should be eaten sparingly.

WQED’s Chris Fennimore

I grew up in a big extended family. We lived in my Grandmother’s house along with several sets of aunts, uncles and cousins galore. The kitchen was our common room. During the week we did our homework on the kitchen table. That’s where we had every meal and it was the site for about 6 hours of prep work leading up to the communal Sunday meal.

“Where are some of the safest places to eat?”
Before I go into the particulars of what food safety inspectors look for, I’m happy to report that all of the dining establishments in Regent Square have received excellent food safety reports! The Loft, Pittsburgh, PA

Katie and I were spent; too much going on in our lives- we needed a few drinks to help us unwind. It was a typical Thursday night in Regent Square; pedestrians were out picking up their dry-cleaning (trying not to get hit by cars as they crossed Braddock Avenue), having dinner, and running errands. We weren’t interested in doing anything productive- we needed cold beer and talk-therapy. Neither of us had been to The Loft, so we decided to give it a try.

How to Grill Fish

Cooking fish can be difficult. It’s not like meat; if you grill a strip steak, and forget about it, it’s still going to be edible- not so with fish. If seafood is overcooked, even by a few minutes, it can become dry, tasteless, and unpalatable. Here are a few suggestions for cooking fish so that it turns out succulent, flavorful, and delicious.

Healthy Eating

Well, winter is officially over, and it’s time to get into shape, and shed the extra pounds that you might be carrying around. If you’ve had the opportunity to check your local grocery store’s produce section lately, you may have noticed that the veggies and fruit are just beginning to look more appealing.
